Sheena I. Laird

• Experienced lawyer in court appearances, mediation
• Reasonable and solution-oriented

Sheena Laird began practicing law mainly in the areas of Family Law, Child Protection (CAS), Real Estate, and Ontario Disability Support Program Appeals. Her desire to broaden her practice and use her expertise to her fullest potential led her to also assist clients with issues outside of these areas of law.

Ms. Laird had also been a member of Family Mediation Canada, but no longer offers mediation services.

At this time, Ms. Laird has restricted her legal services to the area of Family Law, as well as Estate Law.

For nine years, Ms. Laird was a part-time instructor at Algonquin College and has taught courses such as Legal Research and Family Law.  She has overseen articling students, as well as mentored new lawyers, and well-seasoned lawyers changing area of practise.

At its inception, Ms. Laird was one of the presenters for the MIP ("Mandatory Information Program") at the Ottawa Courthouse which all family law litigants must attend.

A dedicated member of Ottawa’s legal community, Ms. Laird previously volunteered for more than ten years for the Supervised Access Program which assists parents in exercising access to their children.

Before deciding to further her interest in law and pursue a career as a lawyer, Sheena Laird had been co-owner of Balthazar & Laird School of Music for 5 years, a music teacher for more than twenty years, and on various music committees throughout the City, such as acting as President of the Ottawa West Junior Music Club, as well as on its audition panel.

She continues to teach music and theory spanning from elementary to graduate levels.  She is a member of O.R.M.T.A, an RCM Certified Teacher with the Royal Conservatory of Music with a specialist designation in piano (advanced) and history (advanced), as well as qualified to teach other areas, including piano pedagogy.   Her music skills enable to continue accompanying various instrumentalists in their RCM examinations, as well as those students auditioning for post-secondary studies.

Ms. Laird's further qualifications include her L.L.B., Master of Laws (specializing in child abduction), A.R.C.T. (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto), B.A. (Hons.) and Masters (Medieval History).

Ms. Laird currently practices law in the following areas:

• Family Law
• Adoptions
• Wills and Powers of Attorney
