• Experienced lawyer in court appearances, mediation Sheena Laird began practicing law mainly in the areas of Family Law, Child Protection (CAS), Real Estate, and Ontario Disability Support Program Appeals. Her desire to broaden her practice and use her expertise to her fullest potential led her to also assist clients with issues outside of these areas of law.
Ms. Laird has been a member of Family Mediation Canada and welcomes clients to utilize mediation services through her, should they have an issue which needs to be addressed. Before deciding to further her interest in law and pursue a career as a lawyer, Sheena Laird had been co-owner of Balthazar & Laird School of Music for 5 years, a music teacher for more than twenty years, and on various music committees throughout the City, such as acting as President of the Ottawa West Junior Music Club, as well as on its audition panel. Ms. Laird's qualifications include her L.L.B., Master of Laws (specializing in child abduction), A.R.C.T. (Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto), B.A. (Hons.) and Masters (Medieval History). For nine years, Ms. Laird was a part-time instructor at Algonquin College and has taught courses such as Legal Research and Family Law. At its inception, Ms. Laird was one of the presenters for the MIP ("Mandatory Information Program") at the Ottawa Courthouse which all family law litigants must attend. A dedicated member of Ottawa’s legal community, Ms. Laird previously volunteered for more than ten years for the Supervised Access Program which assists parents in exercising access to their children. |
